What is ultrasound therapy?

Just as the name applies, ultrasound therapy is the use of a medical device that utilizes sound waves to penetrate tissues to promote enhanced healing in soft tissues by increasing metabolism down at the cellular level. This therapy treatment has been used on the human rehab side by occupational therapist and physical therapist and is a great tool for animal rehabilitation as well.

How does it work?

A non-toxic gel is applied to the animal help the sound waves penetrate the animal’s skin and fur and is used with a small transducer head. The transducer then is then moved around the affected areas applying the healing sound waves into the tissue in short sessions. The sound waves are are produced by applying an electric current to a crystal, causing the crystal to vibrate at a specific frequency. These treatments are pain free a slight warming effect may be felt while pain and swelling are being decreased.
